As for herself, the minor concussion, bruised ribs, and other bumps and bruises she'd gotten during the Icarus evacuation had already healed. There had been a few pointed questions about how, but she had waved them off with an "I'll explain later."

Natalie politely excused herself from the others and walked over to him with a slightly annoyed look.

"You really shouldn't be up." The rebuke was soft, but still noticeable. "But I'm glad you're doing better."

"If I'm not up, no doubt Rush will try to get a coup raised again." Everett leans against a wall.

"At least we've got the air problem sorted."

"Seriously?" The question was more irritated and rhetorical than anything. "You two are like a couple of five-year-olds fighting over the same sandbox."

But that wasn't to say Rush didn't get on her nerves, too. They'd locked horns a couple of times since arriving on Destiny, and it had taken some serious restraint on her part to keep from breaking the scientist's nose on general principles.

With a soft sigh, she slid her hand into Everett's. "Tell you what. I promise to keep you in the loop on what's going on if you just get back in bed."

"I would love, more than anything, to go back to bed, pull the covers over my head and pretend this isn't happening." Everett says, squeezing Natalie's hand slightly. "But I have to be seen. It'll raise the military personnel's morale, at least, even if most of the civilians resent it."

Shaking her head, Natalie sighs.

"I get that, really. It's just with two alpha males going at it all the time, that's not good for anyone's morale. I dunno. Maybe I should be some kind of go-between, a liaison or whatever. The civilians are gonna keep looking to Rush while your people are gonna keep following orders. That's only gonna make things worse. We all need to try and find a way to meet in the middle somehow."

"I've got Camille for that." Everett says. "The IOA has always been the bridge between the civilians and the military." He folds his arms, wincing slightly. "Besides, I know for a fact that most of the civilians don't trust Rush, either. I've heard that they're depending on Eli and the other scientists to get us home rather than Rush."

"That's because they don't think Rush is interested in going home. He is up to his happy little eyeballs in all things Ancient, and going home would be like admitting defeat or whatever."

Annoyed, she rubbed opposing eyebrows with her thumb and middle finger, and then sighed.

"C'mon, you really should be taking it easy."

"Alright, fine." Everett admits. He was finding it a bit hard to keep his balance. "I'll go back and sleep, just for tonight." He squeezes Natalie's hand slightly before moving to pull it free.

"I'll walk back with you."

It isn't that she thinks he won't make it there under his own power; she just intends for him to stay in bed for the next few hours at least.

"You don't have to escort me." Everett may be injured, but he sees through you, lady. "I'm sure I can get back by myself."

"I know you can." Her expression goes from wry to slightly teasing. "I just think we can both do with a little R-and-R for awhile."

And that actually makes Everett laugh slightly. "All right, all right. I'll go back to bed..."

And they start walking down the corridor. "Don't act like you don't like the alpha male in me, though."

"You know I do," she chuckles softly as they walk. "It's just both you and Rush are stubborn to the end."

"I'm stubborn for the right reasons." Everett protests. "I want to get us home. Rush just wants to tinker with this ship."

She sighs again. "I know. We all have people back home who'll miss us, and lives we want to get back to. But I guess we all have to be okay with the idea that we may never get home."

"There has to be a way to get back." Everett says, stubbornly. "And I'm sure that we'll find it. With or without Rush."

"Yeah, well. We're not gonna find it tonight." She opens the door to the room he's been using for his quarters.

And Everett walks over to the bed, sitting down and groaning slightly as he does. "More's the pity. If the ship doesn't have the power to dial Earth, like Rush says, then I have no idea. Trusting Eli and the others to come up with something."

It's tough, but Natalie resists the urge to look over his injuries. If only Rush would get his head out of his ass for more than five minutes to see if there was some kind of medical database on file... But getting pissed off at the scientist isn't going to help anything.

"Okay. Here's the $64 Million question: If we get close enough to Earth, can we still dial in?"

"I think so. Close enough so that we don't need the Ninth or Eighth Chevrons." He bends down to start unlacing his right boot.

"But Eli's confirmed it. It would take years, even at FTL, to get back to Earth."

"If this flying scrapyard holds together that long." She peels off her own jacket. "I mean seriously. Who knows how old this thing is anyway."

"Exactly." He eases his foot out of his boot, trying not to make any sudden movements. His body still felt a bit numb due to the paralysis and the shit Telford put him through.

"And there's no way to turn it 'round. I had Eli confirm what Rush said about the auto-pilot."

"Okay, yeah. I get that we're on auto pilot until someone learns enough Ancient to drive this thing." Her boots come off next and she flops down on the bed and scoots over to make room for him. "C'mon, you need to get off that leg before you do any more damage to it."

Everett kicks his left boot off, before doing as he's told and flopping back into bed, groaning slightly.

"This is all a mess."

"Understatement much?" She sighs and stretches out next to him, propping her head up with one hand and laying the other on his chest. "But seriously. It's kinda, well, cool. I mean, this is the kinda stuff I grew up on. 'Strange new worlds, new civilizations' and all that. Just never thought it'd actually happen. Now I guess being what I am kinda makes sense."
